This song was written about the thieves of the music industry and how they prey upon those who aren't in a position to turn down anything that is not a guarantee. It wound up being prophetic, of course... "Substitune" was supposed to be made into a downloadable game for Rock Band. Instead the band lost $250 to the lying subsidiary company, and the money spent in the studio on making the stems for it.
