Description
Sketches of Lewis and Clark is a concept album that chronicles the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806). It's a great way to learn history through music! In March 1806, the Corps was ready to move east, but was two canoes short to head back up the Columbia. With barely anything to trade with, Lewis bought one from an Indian for the price of his uniform coat. However, poverty and necessity led the captains to make an unethical decision. They decided to just take one, and ride east on . . .
Lyrics
In spring they bid Clatsop adieu The corps’ condition was destitute The captains came up with a plan To steal a canoe from an Indian man It’s amazing what a man will do When a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do Even steal a man’s canoe A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do Six days later the Indian man came The canoe the corps had was his to reclaim The captains offered him a dressed elk skin With rifles pointed at him The Indian gave in It’s amazing what a man will do When a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do With rifles pointed right at you A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do
