Music is Odane Whilby's way to express what has been impressed upon him. He has been quoted as saying, "Artists are impressionable and they respond to their stimuli by creating their art form." Odane's musical roots are set in gospel music, which he heard in his predominately Caribbean church growing up. This, combined with different styles of Christian music ranging from The Gaither's and Jimmy Lee Swaggart to Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin, gave him a love for music that continues to drive his passion to this day. Despite an undeniable gospel influence, Odane's sound thoughtfully incorporates all genres of music. You can hear the influence of bands like U2, Nirvana, Green Day, The Dave Matthews Band, as well as John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Peter Gabriel, Rob Thomas, Musiq Soulchild, and D'Angelo just to name a few. Whilby says, "I make music for all people, not just one group or set. Music should bring us together not tear us apart." His lyrics are described as honest, subtle but strong, and comparable to greats like Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor and similar legendary writers. Odane has not always been in the lime light as a singer-songwritter. He has played and/ or written for up and coming local artists Elder Ronnell Fuller, Kelly Jones, and Melissa "Shine" McHugh. He has shared the stage with a plethora of artists spanning from Tye Tribbett and GA to R&B sensation Neo. He's done all this while earning a Bachelors Degree in Music from Herbert Lehman College in the Bronx, NY. Odane is currently working on his first EP due out in April 2012. He is raising funds to make this dream a reality through IndieGoGo. If you like what you hear, please consider donating a few dollars to this amazingly talented singer's dream.
