First Up Fam Quiet as it’s kept, the state of Mississippi has for some time now produced some of the brightest stars in popular music. The birthplace for American music, the Magnolia State has been breeding grounds for such multi-talented artists as West Coast crooner Nate Dogg, dance music sensation Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em and R&B bad boy Ray J. Up next to add their names among the ranks of globally respected native Mississippi musicians are Jackson-based rap trio First Up Fam, . With their latest single “Rewind” warming up radio and clubs across the state and rapidly spreading throughout the South like wildfire, First Up Fam is well on their way to the top with the recent release of their DJ Aziatikk Blakk-hosted mixtape "City Of Gods". “We don’t make it for just one particular person. A lot of people like our music,” says group member Luck. “Our music is unclassified, not just rap. It’s just great music.” Made up of AirSlim (Albany Crudup, 25), Luck (Andrew Wells, 25) and Squid Key (Deante Butler, 23), the group came together two years ago after fellow Mississippi rapper Cadillac Don (of Cadillac Don and J Money) suggested they form as a group. Each member was a solo artist. Slim and Luck are blood cousins. Squid and Luck are best friends. Since they all hung together, they began to record music together as well. “We were doing promotions work for Cadillac Don and J Money. We used to play our music for Don,” Slim remembers. “He loved every song that we recorded together. After so long, he said that we should become a group. We did and it was the best thing we could have ever done.” Since coming together, they have combed every small town, juke joint, club and street corner of the state pushing their music. Although the fans have been receptive, it hasn’t been a cake walk. “Its’ hard coming out of Jackson,” says Luck. “You gotta find your own lanes and do so many things on your own.” Slim agrees, “Jackson has gotta be one of the roughest cities to make it out of. There’s not a lot of money generating. But if you make noise, people are gonna come to your shows, buy your music and mess with you. He continues, “But they love us because we hit them with the gorilla grind. We put it in their face where they can’t ignore it. They gone have to listen to it. And when they hear it, the music speaks for itself.” As of late, the music has been speaking loudly with their DJ Aziatikk Blakk-hosted mixtape "City Of Gods". Following the success of the single “REWIND", First Up Fam is set to hit them again with their second breakthrough single “PARTY.” “Our music is feel good music,” says Slim. “Our music is for everybody who likes music. If you like music, you gone love our music because we take our craft very serious.” Presently signed to well respected, hard working, Independent label "Country Boy Records" First Up Fam is destined to become a household name in the music business.
