I Got That 2 Dollar Sound! A Mexican, two rednecks, and a Nigerian Princess walk into a bar…and seared the faces off the unsuspecting crowd with their high-energy blend of jazz, blues, rock and funk. Few bands come along with a truly original sound based in the roots of American music, but 2 Dollar Sound is such a band. Delicious bass-laden grooves, driving riffs and rhythms, sweet soulful siren songs, 2 Dollar Sound will get you on your feet, make you sweat, and maybe even help you fall in love in the same set. The band is comprised of four members: Hector Casillas on drums, Nolan “the Wedge” Wedgeworth on bass, Reid Lukens on guitar, and Moji Abiola on vocals. Hector comes to the band from Juarez and El Paso, and brings an endless supply of tasty rhythms from John Bonham/Keith Moon/Ginger Baker thunder, to traditional swing and Latin rhythms, to light, airy sweetness. His energy fuels the band to a fevered pitch on stage and in the practice studio. The Wedge is a crazy Texan. Wedge is one of the youngest in the band, but also a white-hot ball of fury when he slaps and tickles the big strings. Hunched over his bass like a man on a mission, the Wedge is both unstoppable on the stage and immovable from the groovable. Reid is the axe-man of the Sound and proffers a spectrum of guitar tones ranging from clean grooves to roaring solos on his custom snakeskin amplifier (which goes to 11). More than just a pretty face, Reid creates a brand of sonic alchemy which is as fearsome and epic as it is mischievously sweet and subtly inquisitive. He is a veritable idea factory and maestro of theory, calling upon experience with myriad musical styles, including blues, rock, pop, metal, and soul. Moji is the heart, soul, and conscience of the band. Her vocals are the perfect icing for this $2 cake. Originally from Nigeria, she grew up in New York, and was singing every day of it. With a voice that one second calls the angels, and the next thrashes your heart, her emotion and intensity are only matched by her lyrical poetry.
