Portrait of 5th PROJEKT

About 5th PROJEKT

Toronto, Canada

Once upon a time, disparate souls converged over a kindred musical spirit and 5th PROJEKT materialized with their offering of Neo-classical Romanticism, otherwise dubbed ‘cinematic rock’. Their swirly, emotive rock soundscapes lay somewhere between Radiohead and Portishead, all the while sustaining a distinct signature sound.

Collectively, the members of 5th PROJEKT share a musical sensibility that has resulted in a feature on the syndicated radio show Explore Music, hosted by Alan Cross, an appearance on CBC Television’s Sounds Like Summer Music Series, a live performance on XM Satellite’s ‘The Verge’, and invitations to perform at CMW, NXNE, Indie Week Toronto and Seattle’s ROCKRGRL festival, as well as Casa Loma for the Toronto Harry Potter book release party. The band has also received many awards and nominations, including ‘Best Alternative Band’ from the Toronto Independent Music Awards.

It was a deep interest in the effects of cycles and in the ways human individual rhythms interact with nature that ignited 5th PROJEKT's debut album CiRCADiAN. Recorded at Toronto's Chemical Sound with James Heidebrecht (Daniel Lanois, Sarah Slean, Sloan) and mixed by Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), the album takes on the themes of balance and discovery.

The journey begins "In A Coma," setting the pace for the dreamlike lyrical exploration and the atmospheric compositions that characterize the album. The goal of the album is to capture humanity in all its diverse facets. The images that the music invokes are as various as the individuals who listen.

5th PROJEKT is currently working on an upcoming release and tour scheduled for 2010.

“They have a wonderful record called “Circadian”. They live in the spaces between “Kid A”-era, Radiohead, big-sounding bands like The Music and the trip-hoppy bands like Portishead. The album is called “Circadian”. The CD comes in a nice round metal box, too. Very classy. Give a listen to a song called ‘In A Coma’. – Alan Cross, Explore Music

“This album is one great kaleidoscopic orgy of sound. This is not music to play softly in the privacy of your own room. This is music to share. Loudly and from the rooftops.” – Imprint, Waterloo Canada

“A simple yet profoundly moving sound that is fluid, epic, haunting and memorable. 5th Projekt is truly in a class of their own, fusing genres on top of genres to make a sound that is easily listenable but instantly recognizable. “
– Independent Clauses, Oklahoma
