My name is Jen… …which you should know by now, but if not, call me LaQuisha. I guess you might want to know about my music. I had a few piano lessons when I was about 10 years old, but I quit once I realized I was going to have to follow rules and that my piano teacher didn’t appreciate my artistic abilities…which was mostly banging out notes I called my songs. That was pretty much it until I was 17 and blew out my knee playing soccer. Soccer was my first love. I turned to a ukulele named Ike since during rehabilitation for my knee, I couldn’t walk or do much of anything that used to fill my time.  I started writing songs because I was breaking up with my first love, losing my dream of playing college soccer and quite frankly–going off the deep end. Some people say I am crazy because I write extremely personal songs–mostly about love. But it happens to everyone. Love, I mean.  Writing helps me sort out my crazy; Writing helps me sort out the meaning and the pattern to love and heartbreak. Mostly, I write music because it makes me feel better, and I think it helps other people feel better too. Plus, I’m terrible with words. Real words. Like the ones you say to the person you love’s face. Being able to type this out didn’t make me any better (clearly), so writing with a ukulele-piano-guitar-WHATEVER, makes it easier for me to say what I really should have in real life. Wanna know more not-so-interesting facts about myself? If not, I guess you can just click the X in the corner–I’d never know. I have chronic hiccups, which means I hiccup seven times/hour on average. It’s weird. And awkward.  I think the most comfortable temperature is 77 degrees, because 80 is just too hot, and anything below 60 makes my fingers and nose go numb. I have e this odd obsession with dinosaurs…it will never end. Cheez-Its are really delicious and so is orange jello. Actually, I think I might just like orange foods. Who knows? I’m freakishly happy all the time. My mom once joked that I came out of the womb laughing, but I don’t usually tell people that because it makes me sound like a sociopath, so keep that on the “DL”. Can you tell that I’m a pretty confused crazy kitten? That was kinda an alliteration.  Speaking of linguistic patterns, literature is extremely important to me.  I like proofreading papers…I’ve made a lot of friends that way, and of course, enemies who can’t decifer between their/they’re/there/too/to/two/you’re/your.  My family is MY ROCK.  I love my Dad’s shitty jokes and how he laughs too loud at them.  I inherited my mom’s love of life and people and my sister’s sarcasm and wit.  I love hating being surprised by Ohio’s weather mood swings. I love laying in the cool summer grass; I love sneezing. I love coming home from college, and I love going back to my friends. I love that crazy feeling you get when you don’t know if he’s into you, or if he’s not. I love surprising people. I love being surprised (but that’s a secret). I’d like to say I’ve matured a lot over the past few years… but I’ve been this way ever since I was a baby, before I became 17,287 feet tall. Wow, you actually read all that? I love you for that. I know there was 9,813,198 other things you could have been doing with the past 5 minutes of your life. I love you if you’ve listened to my music. I love you if you’re going to. Hell, I probably love you if you don’t. But if you do… I’ll love you like I love cheez-its when I finally save 3$ to buy them and find you a dinosaur you can keep forever. Love & Dinosaurz, Jen
