Born under the influence of artists such as Cat Stevens, James Taylor and Simon and Garfunkel, Jill Ohayon began her musical and lyrical appreciation at a very young age. However, it was not until Jill was in high school that she realized that this would blossom into an entire appreciation for performance, inspiring her to take on challenges in acting, dancing, singing, writing and eventually songwriting. Fast forward to today, 18 year old Jill, whose YouTube channel is nearing 800 000 views, receiving traffic from all around the world, falls somewhere between those aforementioned household names as well as having creative influences from some of today’s most acclaimed artists – Maroon 5, The Script, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat and Demi Lovato. After starting her own YouTube account where Jill was free to interpret some of her favorite songs by playing them acoustically, Jill started to take her own music seriously.
Garnering huge attention from her videos on YouTube, Jill was invited to play a charity event for the Koby Mandel foundation, a camp that aids children who have been victims of war. Her performance caught the attention of Montreal producer Steven Tracey, whose long list of accomplishments includes songwriting for Celine Dion, 2Unlimited and launching the career of award-winning, multi-platinum artist Corneille, in both North America and Europe.
In the fall of 2010, Steven and Jill, with the help of famed indie producers Gus Van Go and Werner F, set to work on recording and crafting Jill’s debut album in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a hotbed for indie talent in North America.The product - a labour of love with a cool blend of organic acoustic and electro pop elements that caress the mind and soul through Jill’s eyes, all the while having an unmistakable edge that can be found in today’s radio pop music. Jill's lyrical abilities and songwriting skills were remarkable for her young age of 16 when she co-wrote the album. Her vocals are dynamic and timeless, her music and lyrics reminiscent of singer songwriters like Carol King and Stevie Nicks, but still Jill has a distinct sound and voice, stylized with a sing-along addictiveness and coated with modern production values that are globally refreshing. What sets Jill apart from her peers is not only her pop sensibility but her innate talent to express herself through her lyrics which spawn from countless sources and she shares a deep connection with her audience.
