The Glycerine Queens formed in July of 2010 and consists of Cynthia Rittenbach (16) on lead vocals and guitar, Jen Amoscato (16) on drums and backing vocals, Kayla Smith (17) on guitar and backing vocals and Kayla Cervone (18) on bass. Cynthia met Kayla S. on Youtube and they bonded over their mutual love for The Runaways, and decided to cover some Runaways songs using garage band to record their parts separately, then e-mailing them to one another. One of their first recordings, “California Paradise” has gained over 4,000 views and continues to grow. They found out that they both lived in New Jersey and they really wanted to get a band together. They picked the name “The Glycerine Queens” from the Suzi Quatro song, “Glycerine Queen.” Cynthia met Jen a year earlier at a musician’s workshop and they had been playing together, so Cynthia brought Jen in as the drummer. Jen knew Kayla C. and asked her to join as the bassist. By July 2010, The Glycerine Queens lineup was complete and practices began every week. Their influences include The Runaways, The Donnas, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Sex Pistols, Sweet, David Bowie, T. Rex, Suzi Quatro, Girlschool, L7, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. What sets them apart from most bands is that they’re an all-girl rock band! They went into Metro Music Recording Studio to record a 4-song demo, 2 covers and 2 originals that will be released on I-Tunes the week of April11th. The “GQ” girls want to bring rock back into a Pop-dominated world! One of their biggest achievements was making into the Semi-Final round of the Break Contest, a chance to play at the Bamboozle Festival. The girls have played at the World famous, Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ 5 times; they’ve also played at the Saint in Asbury Park, NJ, at Bar East on the upper east side of Manhattan, NYC, the Headliner in Neptune, NJ, and at the Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ. They will play a benefit gig for disabled American Veterans on May 29, 2011 and at the Upper Shores Branch Library Lavallette Battle of the Bands. They will also be playing at The National Underground in NYC, July 6th at 6 30 PM and Neptune City Day on August 6th. In addition they have played at The 2011 Belmar Pro Surf Competition and opened up for Misstallica on 12/23 at the Brighton Bar. They have also played at the Wonder Bar on 1/13/12 and the Stone Pony again on 1/22/12. On 3/8/11 they opened for Hunter Valentine and the event was filmed by the Showtime Network for an upcoming documentary. The Glycerine Queens are always looking to play more shows.
