EP COVER DESIGN ART TO THE LEFT) Born on the island of the Commonwealth of Dominica, ABDI brings a variety of sounds and musical influence together to create his unique Pop flavor. ABDI Nesta Robert Thomas inherited his musical style from his Caribbean upbringing, as well as western influences such as Michael Jackson, and the Beatles. ABDI’s smooth voice and conscious lyrics are reminiscent of artists such as Sizzla Kalonji, and Garnett Silk. Derived from an Ethiopian Context Bible, the name ABDI means messenger from God and his second name, Nesta, is after the great Robert Nesta Marley. At the tender age of 12 years old, ABDI began writing poetry while living on the island as a way to vent his frustrations with the poverty his family was forced to endure. As ABDI entered his early teens he converted his poetry into songwriting, and eventually taught himself how to sing by imitating the notes and melodies of his favorite musicians. By age 15, ABDI had set a goal for himself to follow in the footsteps of his namesake Bob Marley and released his first studio demo by the age of 16. Along with the support of his parents, and professional guidance from a local DJ, ABDI was able to accomplish this goal. Since migrating to the U.S. in 2003, ABDI is even more driven than before to bring his musical career to the next tier. Currently ABDI is a student at the University of Massachusetts. This exhilarating pop artist has since opened for Fat Man Scoop and Morgan Heritage at The Maximum Capacity in Chicopee, Massachusetts. In addition, ABDI has performed at the Young Money Showcase in Norwood, Massachusetts as well as the University of Massachusetts’ Battle of the Bands in 2009. This up and coming singer/songwriter had also been chosen to perform for the BET 106 & Park’s Wild Out Wednesdays Audition. His current pop single, "Ghostly" is off his latest project entitled Intergalactic L.U.V. Which can be heard every Sunday between 6pm-10pm and requested daily on the very popular Connecticut station, Kiss 95.7.
