A true up-start, Abi Robins began her musical career at age 17 when she was given the opportunity to share her original music at a local bookstore in her western Kansas home town. From that moment on Robins has been honing her craft and obsessively pursuing her music as not only a career but as a passion and a way of life. Shortly after her first experience with the stage, Robins teamed up with fellow musician and friend Jess Parsons. The two girls found inspiration in the partnership and traveled the country as The Winter Wake Up. In the spring of 2007, the pair with Jess's younger brother Cameron as a percussionist began negotiations with a small record label out of Kansas City. After much deliberation the group declined the offer in favor of staying on the independent market. Robins and Parsons soon found themselves wanting different things from their music and decided to focus their efforts on their respective solo careers. In February of 2008 Robins released her first solo ep, Far Too Short, with nothing more than drive and a little free time. She recorded everything in her basement with two PG58s and her laptop computer. Playing everything from guitar and bass to harmonica and tambourine, anything she needed to know about recording she picked up on the fly. In the year that followed Robins played over 100 shows covering more than a fifth of the country. She also established her own independent record label, Morning Bird Records, to support and encourage the many artists whom she had met durring her travels. MBR has currently released 5 EPs and is about to release Robins' first full length record in early summer of 2009. With a surprisingly short career, Robins boasts musical maturity and business saavy far beyond her years. Drawing upon in fluences as diverse as The Beatles, Ani DiFranco, Nickel Creek, Aimee Mann, John Mayer, Billie Holliday, and Patty Griffin, Robins creates a harmonic atmosphere that is, at times, familiar, and at others, utterly distinct.
