About ABYS

NEWPORT NEWS, VA

A masterful blend of street and sex appeal is how many describe the Virginia born artist Abys. Known and respected for her impeccable work ethic and down to earth personality, Abys has won the hearts of many

Compared to the likes of MC Lyte, her straightforward delivery, unique sound, and lyrical content continues to separate her from any other female hip-hop artist on and off the scene today. Her versatility makes it hard to categorize, I rap about anything from partying to coping with the lost of a loved one to the state that hip-hop is in right now Basically I write what I feel, explains Abys.

She has received spins on local radio stations: 103 Jamz, WHOV 88.1, and 102.1, with her original single, React, a response to unfaithful mates in relationships and for her Busta Rhyme spin off, V-A Sh-t. Her distinct sounding voice has also led her to be the official voice of radio commercials for urban clothing store Denim Exchange

Adding to her extensive résumé, Abys was also the ONLY female out of 500 contestants, in a 103 Jamz Who Got Next emcee talent search, to make it to the final 5. She has performed at numerous venues such as: Industry Wednesdays, Def Jams Summer Jam, New Brookland Tavern and the 2006 B-Girl Fest in Columbia, SC, and the Lyrics Café in Charlotte, NC

During her travels on the road to North and South Carolina, Georgia, and New York she has sold over 1000 copies of her underground mix tape, VA Standup within a 6-month timeframe and continues to move units online

Taught to never limit herself Abys has ventured out into the modeling world. Her West Indian roots have blessed her with breath taking physical assets that she utilize to her advantage to bleed hip-hop into the modeling world. I feel there hasnt been a TRUE hip-hop artist that brought an edgy, yet classy look into the modeling arena, expresses Abys when asked why she chose to enter the field

Through her travels, she lost her fiancé and father of her first and only child, so she made it her mission to stay focused and stay busy with her music. Grief-stricken, she used this great loss as motivation to obtain a greater gain, her dream of bringing her talent to the world. Armed with talent and an unshaken will to rise above it all, Abys is determined to make it in the music industry and leave her mark as the greatest female artist to touch the mic
