Ad Lucem is a Latin proverb meaning “To the Light.” In late 2009, Kevin Spicer decided to pursue this light by starting his career in the music industry by forming Ad Lucem. Kevin’s tales of love, loss, and struggle are accompanied by intricately crafted instrumentals: provided by Jamie King on bass, Nick Bennett on lead guitar, and Scott Cogar on drums. The sound is best characterized as indie rock with a strong presence of keyboard and delay heavy guitar. Kevin takes advantage of years of classical piano training to craft smooth, precise piano driven melodies. These melodies are led by his cathartic vocals, ranging from a near whisper to powerful howls. Jamie and Nick joined the band following the dissolving of their previous band, The Setting. The guitar and bass duo use their extensive experience of playing together to craft complementary melodies that accentuate both instruments. The two are also graduates of the University of Georgia Music Business Program and are constantly searching for original methods of creating an interesting and powerful sound. Scott brings his previous experience from bands such as When Forever Fails and Fictions to bring a clever and authoritative rhythm section to life. His precise rhythmic ability creates driving beats that set the mood for Ad Lucem’s powerful set. The band made their public debut in early February, opening for The Rise of Science and Come What May at the grand opening of The Well in Braselton, GA. They followed up that show with their debut in Athens, GA at the Caledonia Lounge. Ad Lucem once again shared the stage with Come What May, and were joined by Danny B! and Frankly, My Dear. The band is currently working with Seth Stringham of Iron Sight Productions on their debut EP, “Meaningless, Meaningless.”
