Alan Spence was born and raised in Franklin, Tennessee (right outside of Nashville) where he spent most of his childhood. He spent the past 14 years (also his favorite number) of his life in Charlotte, North Carolina with the exception of a ten month excursion to New York City. His musical influences stretch across several genres from U2 to Bob Dylan, Jack White to Brad Paisley, and Thomas Newman to Kings of Leon. He is also moved by the effect that a musical composition can have over a landscape of images (or film). He has pulled inspiration from the idea that many composers share for creating scores; that you start with one central theme or series of progressions and spin-off. He has loosely used this process in an effort to discover songs to make up his 1st album tentatively titled Typical Tennessee Sky. (How's that for alliteration?) Redundancy is his biggest fear/challenge in this new adventure but is also up for the challenge. He says that his influences for these songs stem from lost love in NY, childhood winters in Tennessee, and everyday life. -- "The central theme for these songs is obviously love, whether it be a discovery or 'lack there-of,' but it's something that is completely universal and hopefully will connect with at least a few people.
