one night, while hanging out at northwestern university’s college radio station with some friends, jordan allen asked dj akili--the hottest dj in chicago at the time--to show him how to mix and scratch. sure, he’d been into music his whole life--and having lived as a child in places as varied as connecticut, jamaica, and florida, he’d been exposed to all types—but it wasn’t until that moment, in that dark basement, that he recognized his true calling. it was in that moment that a deejay—all-en1—was officially born. for the next six years, all-en1 honed his craft day and night, eventually becoming good enough to land gigs in chicago, and later madison, wisconsin, at local clubs, comedy shows, house parties and bar mitzvahs, spinning everything from jay-z and jeezy to mavado and madonna. in 2009 all-en1 moved to new york city with literally nothing more in his possession than two duffle bags and a dream to take his career to the next level. before the year was over, he had a regular gig at identity bar & lounge in lower manhattan and was chosen to be a member of the violator all-star djs, one of the most respected dj crews in the nation. when he’s in the booth, all-en1 is a pro at tapping into the pulse of the crowd and staying in-tune with their needs to keep them moving. he’s intuitive and aware, knowledgeable, but never pushy. he recognizes what’s hot and cutting-edge without sacrificing his allegiance to the classics. hip hop, r&b, reggae, pop, r&b—he can play it. college students, young professionals, scenesters—whatever the crowd, he can cater to it. he’s everything you need, all in one.
