Andy Gott was born in Manchester and grew up in London. At University he formed the band that was eventually to become 50Hz after his school friend Si left to pursue his own musical career, later fronting the excellent Engineers. Although material from the 50Hz debut album was used on the popular Long Way Round series, Andy also decided to leave for pastures new. Despite this, he continued to record with 50Hz throughout 2007 to complete an album with producer Ian Grimble while replacement guitarists were being sort. Recording went well despite the unconventional hanging of his guitar on a string from the ceiling of 2Khz studios: a back saving measure that got him through the ordeal. While continuing to write songs and experimenting with electronica, Andy started a new band with an old school friend on bass. Out of shear pragmatism they set the band around a simple acoustic guitar and rejected the age old legacy of lugging amplifiers and effect rigs. Andy and Ben knew they needed a special to drummer to make a stripped down three piece groove and were very happy when they found the man for the job after only one audition. Nathan instantly became a good friend and the perfect addition to their sound with a very instinctive feel and groove. So, in 2007 with Australian skin-smith Nate on board, they began rehearsing and playing gigs. Andy also built a sound booth in his bedroom to record vocals and the band recorded some drums, bass and guitar live in a rehearsal studio. Suffice to say, by the end of 2008 an album of DIY demos was finished. The band’s influences are many, so unfortunately a sound-bite cannot cover their sound. Take a listen and see what you think. Andy has recently had hip surgery to improve a congenital hip deformity from Perthes disease and hopes to be back to strength and gigging later this summer. Meanwhile new ideas are going down well with a new DPA microphone, a present to inspire himself while convalescing. Andy Gott - guitar & vocals Ben Donner - bass Nathan Handley - drums
