Workin’ Minerva began their journey together when Athena, singer/songwriter and solo performing artist decided to incorporate a fuller sound to her music. By inviting Dave Svaboda on drums and Marie Vermilyea on bass she found the support and sound that she was looking for. Dave, aka. Animal, is just that on his drums, bouncing from his seat and rocking out or lessening the punch, he sets the tempo and supports the lyrical and rhythmical variety the band offers. Marie sets the perfect rhythm on bass while capturing the essence of speed and tonal qualities that aid to her spectacular performance. Her emotions ride the waves of each individual song and connect her perfectly with Athena on guitar. She captivates the audience with her dynamic stage presence and vocal qualities comparative to P!NK, Grace Slick and Annie Lennox combined. Her guitar takes the heat as she pounds and picks her compositional passion and lyrical symmetry. The 3 of them have an amazing psychic connection while performing on stage leaving a powerful impact on the audience. In addition to the trio, the band will often invite a lead guitarist on stage with them to enhance more of an edge to their already fervent energy. The band’s name is influenced by Minerva the Roman goddess whom Hellenizing Romans from the 2nd century BC onwards equated with the Greek goddess Athena. She was the virgin goddess of poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts, magic, and the inventor of music. She is often depicted with an owl, her sacred creature and, through this connection, a symbol of wisdom. The band also enjoys the play on words, your “workin’ my nerve-ah!”.
