In 2006 Ryan Davison (Endless Ruin) and Chris Harvey (Cocaine Tongue) combined their songwriting talents to form an all-acoustic band after years of performing in Boston's rock scene. Originally the two started with the idea of an indie/progressive rock band that would be slightly heavy and melodic, but after experimenting with acoustic instrumentation and orchestration the band creatively took its true direction. Following the breakup of metal act Endless Ruin, Davison and Harvey chose to stray from their metal roots and find a different sound that they both had not yet explored. Quickly, as Davison developed Autumn Above's lyrical depth the two began to compose their clean, signature sound with bassist Tone Palocci (Endless Ruin) and guitarist Jimmy Joyce (Endless Ruin). The four soon established a solid foundation for their experimental, progressive sound, a thick 3-guitar sound, juxtaposed with melodic bass lines and strong, harmonic vocals. The music delivers both a subtle offering of Davison's storytelling with simple guitar movements and heavy, atmospheric reprise at others. With a new understanding, Autumn Above recruited Sean Cahalin (Benedict Arnold, Car Crash) on the drums and had a full band. Cahalin's varied use of percussive instrumentation carried the final ingredient that cemented the band's engaging sound.Autumn Above is now in the process of writing, self-recording demos, and rehearsing what they intend to be a progressive catalogue. With about an album and a half of their material written, Autumn Above has just recently completed their 8-song self-recorded "To the Inferno..." EP and has begun to play shows. With their engaging performances ranging from a relaxed, acoustic coffeehouse style to a packed dive bar rock show, Autumn Above caters to fans of Coheed and Cambria (Columbia/Equal Vision), Murder By Death (Eyeball/Tent Show/Vagrant) and Dashboard Confessional (UMG/Vagrant).
