About Barbara Garriel
“I’m silver, not gold; feminine, not frilly; a combination of Ginger and MaryAnn, infused with a deep sense of gratitude”, Barbara declares in an interview about her saucy debut album, Ample Patience. With this CD, Barbara offers a simmering blend of original blues, country, ballads, and folk-rock. Her music radiates the confidence of a strong woman and the passion of a born storyteller.
Ample Patience has been described as “a gutsy, gritty, sexy, vibrant mixture of piercingly honest music” (Alan Haynes, singer-songwriter), and “sweet, with a little bit of an edge that is strangely reminiscent of something from long ago” (Laundry Room Music).
Barbara Garriel is a New York based, contemporary singer-songwriter. She is an artist whose “voice is the voice of every woman” (Joe Iadanza). Barbara began exploring guitar and piano in her younger years, but it wasn’t until 2006 when she decided to hone her songwriting craft. Her original music and clever lyrics speak to anybody with a zest for life.
While Barbara’s musical influences are many – everyone from James Taylor to George Benson, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and George Gershwin, to Carole King, Janis Joplin, Mary Travers and Kim Carnes, her gutsy, sensual style remains her own. Her vocals have been compared to Laura Nyro, Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, and Tracy Chapman.
Barbara performs solo and with her new band. She is a member of ASCAP and NSAI.
“Barbara Garriel possesses a voice that is as rich and sensuous as red velvet. She is the girl-next-door dressed in the finest black leather. Her well-crafted songs reflect a warm and spirited soul who is feisty, flirty, and fun-loving, all at the same time. “
