The acoustic "The Truth of Silence" EP is birthed from disillusionment, anguish and pain of loss. Yet it clings to an earnest desire to pick up the pieces and reconcile the past with the present to move towards a brighter future. Heavy infectious grooves, thick acoustic guitars, lush harmonies, and catchy choruses pay homage to the band's grunge influences, while keeping a sound that is fresh. Black Bell have succeeded in uniquely combining elements of hard-, pop-, and southern rock and blues. From the introspective angst of “Again,” to the soaring anthem “Restored,” "The Truth of Silence" resonates with gut-wrenching honesty and truth. The song “Less than Ordinary” tells a story about a girl struggling with her self-image and how it affects her desire to move beyond her dreams; while “Anything Better” is an honest reflection on allowing oneself to be loved and embraced regardless of one’s faults or past. "The Truth of Silence" is bold, eclectic and unflinching, meshing the vulnerability of an acoustic album with the razor's edge of modern rock. When asked why the band decided to do an acoustic album for their frosh effort, Lead singer/ lyricist Ashley Biggs replied "We wanted to see how heavy we could get these songs on acoustic guitars, while using a full band to push the groove. We've played in heavier projects for a while now. In approaching Black Bell, we wanted something with a little more simplicity. A lot of bands come out guns blazing with a brutal first record that melts faces. After that, everything tends to sound the same. They have a great niche carved out. The catch is, getting out of it may be tough if you decide to break out and experiment. We wanted to take a completely different creative approach. This EP showcases a softer side, but still shows how intense we are as individuals. It's a more vulnerable record; people will be able to relate to it easier. We're starting out more exposed and vulnerable so everyone knows what we're really about. We'll blow minds on the next album when we go fully electric!" Taking an approach that may or may not win credit with critics, Black Bell make it obvious that their music's reception isn't their responsibility. "People will hear what they wanna hear... All we're trying to do is write what we know and create good rocking songs that everyone can relate to on some level. If we do a song that you can't relate to, press forward on your iPod cause the next one you probably will. I think that's the beauty taking this approach. It appeals to a wide audience!" "The Truth of Silence" EP can be summed up in one word: Passionate. Drawing on influences from the eviscerating and brutal, milky smooth and jazzy to even eclectic influences from the Middle east, Mike Loudenback's leads weave a tapestry enhancing and insinuating each song with beauty and mystery. Aaron Brown's drum grooves are a ghosted throwback to the early hard rock greats, while still maintaining an edgy aggressive tone that pervades the album with energy. At times understated, and other times overwhelming, he injects the Hard rock backbone into this unique masterpiece. Black Bell have a long road ahead of them and they plan to walk that road as friends and brothers. The main focus of the band is to create meaningful relationships in their circles with each other and outside of the band. "We are there for each other through thick and thin no matter what. Our music comes as a bi-product of the great friendships we share with each other, our families, friends and fans. Without the people we love who are there to walk this road with us, none of this is even possible. We thank God for blessing us with them and each other every day." --Anonymous--
