With razor sharp guitar lines, infectiously catchy vocals and hometown venues bulging at the seams with hoards of devoted teenage fans, meet Blonde Louis, the band conducting pop music’s soundtrack to suburban teenage life. Growing up in the first garden city of Letchworth in Hertfordshire is generally a pretty quiet affair, unless of course you’re locked away in a small rehearsal room for hours a day jamming with your mates at high volume, feverishly learning the craft of writing the perfect pop song. Brought together by the boredom of green-belt town life and the love of pop music this is exactly how Blonde Louis spent their former years. Jack Cox (drums), Jack Cherry (bass) and cousins Harvey Downes (guitar) and Josh Clark (guitar/vocals), with an average age of 19, spent as many spare moments as possible jamming in small rehearsal rooms on the school grounds. All products of the new digital music age in which they have grown up in, they cite influences in songs rather than artists and are as equally comfortable listening to Enter Shikari as they are Pixie Lott. Blonde Louis’ music exudes these contemporary music sensibilities, placing emphasis on the strength of each individual track they produce. “We want to make an album of 10 singles, we’re going to aim for that you know”, says lead singer Josh Clark defiantly. You certainly wouldn’t bet against it, especially after listening to tracks like their latest offering ‘Midnight Kiss’ - a joyous ode to young love, fueled by anthemic driving guitars, a huge melodic bass riff and euphoric synth sprinklings that will have you reliving your school days and heading down the park armed with bottles of White Lightning! At a time when reality shows churn out one karaoke crooner after another and manufactured boy bands are falling over each other to be the next big thing, ‘Midnight Kiss’ is a statement of intent - Josh Clark (vocals/guitar), Harvey Downes (guitar), Jack Cherry (bass) and Jack Cox (drums) have thrown down the gauntlet to the JLS’s and The Wanted’s of this world and pitched their flag firmly in the soil of great guitar pop! With local venues packed to the rafters with ecstatic teenage fans and word of mouth excitement about the band spreading at a rapid pace to the wider reaches of the UK, Blonde Louis are striking a chord with the youth looking for a band to represent them.
