Brandon McCray has always strive for greatness; nothing and no one has been able to discourage or hinder the man’s ability to explore all aspects of music. He is determined and strong willed in what he believes, making him a fierce competitor in the competitive field of creativity and originality of music. Born March 11, 1988, in San Bernardino, California, Brandon was immediately introduced to singing at the tender age of 2 years old. His father, Eugene McCray, was a DJ in college while his mother, Tanya McCray, spent her free time working with her own music group. His Great-Grandmother, Jonella Irving, was an opera and gospel singer, which was a heavy musical influence that constantly surrounded Brandon. Around the age of six years old, Brandon and his younger sister, Ashley McCray, started singing in church together. The influence in gospel music with its instruments and lyrics became a template for the songwriting techniques that Brandon would soon grow to apply with his own work. Growing older, he started to sign-up for school talent shows and karaoke contests around the city. It was becoming clearly evident just how invested he was getting into his music, leading him to start writing his own songs at the age of ten. For years Brandon had sung because it was something he did for fun, until he decided that it was something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. For most of his teenage years, Brandon went on to join high school choirs where he entered competitions and participated in city-wide music workshops. At the age of sixteen years old the young men met with the late and great drummer, singer, and songwriter extraordinaire, Bobby D. Bobby D was the first to give Brandon the opportunity to create and write to his first independent album, “Promise Fulfilled”. The album (produced by Myke Coles and co-produced by Brandon McCray himself) received many praises from underground critics and first-time listeners. Garnering a very smooth R&B vibe with a splash of Pop for good measure, “Promise Fulfilled” was the perfect start for the growing musician. At the age of twenty, Brandon wanted to start exploring more genres of music and see just what limits he could push himself to. Enter Rock City Studios and Blackstone Music Entertainment. Both establishments gave Brandon the opportunity to participate in musical plays and city-wide events. It was his time here that the man started to educate himself in the art of music and learn to fuse different genres of music in ways that have never been done before. Now, twenty-three years old, Brandon McCray has done more with music than most can say…but he’s not done yet. His next step is to sign to a major record and forever change the sound of today’s music. With his second independent album, “E.P.I.C.”, already in production, Brandon McCray is well on his way to becoming music’s next biggest star. And with so much knowledge and so much talent on his shoulders, there’s no telling what may come of Brandon’s reign.
