Build A Machine formed in 2007, naming the group after a lyric from a Jane's Addiction song. The bands first offering "Once Around The Sun" was a collection of songs written in The Salton Sea, CA. While in the studio recording their debut release, the group got the attention of drummer Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros) who enjoyed the music so much that he added percussion to there track "Make It Happen." Upon completion of the album, the band hit the road all over North America to promote it, selling 2,000 copies independently. For the groups second offering, their self-titled EP, BAM packed up their gear and headed up north. Armed with a new outlook and positive inspiration, the group rented a lake house near Portland Maine where they lived and recorded their new EP over the coarse of three months. This form of isolated creativity was an extremely positive experience for the band which undoubtedly came across on the recordings. "It was a really inspiring opportunity for us to be in that type of environment. We have recorded in typical studios and done the normal rehearsal space writing sessions, but renting this house and living on the water was a chance to do something a bit more natural and relaxed. The overall vibe and positive attitudes of the sessions are definitely captured on this record," says singer Mike Serra. "Things can get stale really quickly if you get stuck in the same routine all the time, so we just tossed everything we were working on and started fresh, which was incredibly rewarding both personally and musically," added drummer Tyler Saraca. With mixing duties provided by Dave Aron (Sublime, Snoop Dogg), Build A Machine's Self-Titled EP offers an eclectic mix of reggae, funk, and rock which "harbors back to a time of George Clinton with a dollop of Rage Against the Machine tossed in for good measure."
