Travis ‘Caliph’ Gairy (pronounced cal-leaf) is a Canadian rapper and singer born December 23rd 1988 in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Equally capable singing or rapping, Caliph's clever lyricism and insightful subject matter encompasses a variety of themes drawn from his life. Building on the buzz generated from his well-received mixtape 'Music & Me', Caliph is currently recording his full-length debut album, 'The Resignation'. The lead single entitled ‘Dedicated’ showcases his diverse vocal presence with energetic verses and a smooth chorus. American producer Izzy The Kidd produced ‘Dedicated’ as well as 6 other tracks on ‘The Resignation’. Following the release of ‘Dedicated’ the street single ‘Invincible’ featuring fellow Canadian artist DL Incognito and production by Australian producer M-Phazes was released. ID Labs, Analogic, Boonie ‘Boon Doc’ Mayfield, Auditory and Blind Beats handle other production credits on ‘The Resignation’. Following the release of ‘The Resignation’ Caliph’s 2nd mixtape, which is currently ‘untitled’, will a be released. Caliph moved to the Greater Toronto Area at the age of 5 with his father Leary (Trinidadian), his mother Belinda (English) and his two sisters. He experienced his first performances as a child singing in the church choir. Caliph began writing his own music around the age of 12 influenced by artists such as Nas, Common, Jay-Z, Mos Def, The Notorious B.I.G, The Roots, Talib Kweli, etc. He continued writing throughout high school and into college where he attended George Brown College for the HVAC Technician Program. It was during this time period where he was introduced to his now Manager/Producer Chris Kuk by a mutual friend. The two quickly became friends and began creating music together. They soon created Nasty North Records and released ‘Music & Me’ as a free digital download on their website. Caliph soon realized music is what he wants to do for a living and is determined to make this make this happen which led to the album title ‘The Resignation’.
