Chris DaSilva Band (CDB) is an acoustic-based, reggae-rock band formed in late 2008 when Chris was in need of a full band to take his music into the larger clubs. His first and most logical choice was longtime band mate, Steve Holder (bass) who also helped co-write many of the songs. Rounding out the current trio is Fred Pisciotta (percussion), who had played with both Chris and Steve on and off for several years. The three had first come together back in mid-2005 forming the band According to Wendy. Since that time, Chris and Steve had also formed The Jynx in 2007. Digging back to their roots, CDB adopted the acoustic-based format from their songwriting years earlier, as well as the familiar reggae, funk and pop-rock styles incorporated into their songs. Chris, who was born in New York and raised in New Jersey, listened to and played many types of music from an early age. From classical piano to The Beatles, jazz improv to Led Zeppelin, no style went unheard and all were experimented with. While living in central PA in the late 90's, Chris was introduced heavily to reggae and was invited to play guitar in a local reggae jam-band. Since then, reggae has been a huge part of his song-writing, incorporating catchy melodies and pop-based song structures. By 2008, he had been in about half a dozen bands that included reggae in most the songs, and sang and wrote for over half of those bands. With this experience, he was soon comfortable playing guitar, singing and writing songs in bands. Steve, a New York native, was heavily influenced by bands such as The Beatles and The Who, helping to give him the abilities to not only play bass as he does, but also write music. He has had a large part of co-writing many of the songs currently played in CDB. Playing in many bands throughout growing up in the city, Steve eventually met Fred in 2002 having both answered ads to join the same band. The two quickly built a musical chemistry and became the solid rhythm section that was soon to become the backing of CDB. Within just a couple of months, the band went into the studio to record their debut self-titled EP, which is available through iTunes and on Amazon.com. The EP features six of their original songs, ranging from reggae to pop-rock in the acoustic-based style that has become a trademark of theirs.
