Code Pie is a six-piece rock band that began with a series of home recordings by singer Enzo Palermo in the year 2000. Code Pie is a six-piece rock band that began with a series of home recordings by singer Enzo Palermo in the year 2000. Two years later Palermo contacted guitarist Salvatore Ciolfi through an internet ad, and the two began writing and playing music together. Originally focused on a sort of post-rock influenced electronica, the duo were soon joined by drummer Vince Varano and bassist Michel Semienchuk, who gave the group a more muscular sound. The additions of trumpet player Eva Boodman and cellist Rebecca Lessard completed the sextet, and the group promptly fell into a more immediate pop-rock sound based on their diverse musical preferences. Their first album, This Habit, was recorded in late 2004 for only $700. Using rented equipment, the band put down tracks in various locations, including a high school auditorium, family homes, apartments and offices. Wary of labels and unsure of how to proceed once the album was complete, Code Pie released This Habit on their own label. Flagless Records later signed a distribution deal with PHD Canada, a company based in Vancouver, British Colombia. The band's second album, The Most Trusted Name in Yous, was recorded and mixed at the Hotel 2 Tango in Montreal with Howard Bilerman, Brian Paulson, and Kevin Komoda. Since releasing the album, the band has appeared at Canadian Music Week, Pop Montreal, North by Northeast, the Halifax Pop Explosion, and were one of 53 bands chosen out of over 3,000 to play Manchester, England's In the City emerging music festival. They are currently recording a third album at D.I.R.T studio in Montreal.
