It all started when Rashad Carrizales decided to post an ad seeking easy-going musicians to collaborate on a back-to-basics project where hip-hop would be backed up by a live instrumental band, free from confines of samples, loops, electronic drum tracks, gangster lyrics, or "rapping about what you don't got". Answering that ad was the next step in creating one of the most unique bands to come out of the DFW area in a long time: The Groove Cartel. From the moment they met in late April 2009, the group knew that they had something special, and their first live gig was booked for only 4 weeks from their first jam! Since then, they've continued to build a substantial fan base, composing original songs, and tearing the roof off of each venue they play. From blues-reggae fusion to hard-rock-flavored flow to groove and funk, the Groove Cartel attracts fans from many genres of music to listen and enjoy the tastes of hip-hop, rock, and funk mixed together. Their on-stage presence combines studio-precision with unmatched live energy, whether you focus on the intense lyrics, smooth flow, powerful vocals, subtle-yet-intricate bass grooves, melodic guitar riffs, strong funk/hip-hop drum beats, or just let the music roll and enjoy the entire package.
