Living Reality By Jaleesa McDowell Writer While sitting in church the melodies of his mother’s voice serenades through the building; the place where Damar Jackson found the root of his talent at a young age. His love for all types of music has grown into a full passion pursuit of an R&B singing career. Jackson is stepping closer to the industry by releasing mix tapes, staying creative with new songs, and performances. “My goal is not going commercial; I just want to be myself, and make great music,” said Jackson. Louisiana’s new R&B sensation recently released his highly anticipated second mixtape, The Reality Vol.2 in April of 2010. The mixtape hosted by GO DJ Star and production by T-Black, had fans on the edge of their seats. Fan favorites are: “Can’t let her Go” “Catching Feelings” “Text Buddy” “Pull My Dreads” and “Say Oh.” Jackson released his first mix tape in April 2009 titled, The Reality, and received great feedback from his peers and insiders from the music industry. The mix tape is a compilation of self portrait songs, in which Jackson based the songs from personal experiences. He knew the release of the mixtape would introduce his talent and passion for music to fans in Louisiana and beyond. “It is named, The Reality, because it is based on what is going on in my life, I know everyone goes through things in college, and they can relate to it,” said Jackson. Jackson is eager to build his fan base before he steps in the industry from his mix tapes; reminiscent of artists such as, Drake, Kid Kudi, and Lil Wayne have been able to do with their mix tapes. Jackson’s fan base is on a steady rise with the help of his Facebook, MySpace Music, and Twitter pages. Jackson realizes a lot of artist get dropped from their label, and lose fans because they sit too comfortable in their success or hit songs. He says he will never be content, so he is always hungry to make more music; so he continues to write and collaborate with other artists to make great music. “I am networking, and trying to get my name out there, so I continue to put new music out, so my fans will never be bored,” said Jackson. The singer’s live performances are definitely catered for his female fans. One can expect tantalizing dance routines, high energy, and great music. This year Jackson has shared the stage with artist such as, Ludacris, Day26, Bobby Valentino, Pleasure P., and performed all over Louisiana. Jackson is now busy finishing college and performing all over the south. Jackson does not want to make a one hit wonder; instead he wants to make a mark on the industry. With two successful mix tape in the vault; Jackson is now working on The Reality Vol. 2.5 and wants to release it this summer. Jackson is done dreaming he is ready to live the dream and make it his reality. “I just want my chance to be heard and I can’t wait until it is my turn.” (For more information on Damar Jackson visit Youtube.com/DamarJackson1 or Facebook.com/damarjackson) Booking contact: 318.820.5422/leesamgmt@yahoo.com
