Beautifully haunting vocal melodies, shimmering guitars, lush orchestration, and driving beats come together to form the sound of Dare Me Down. Falling somewhere between indie-rock and classic movie scores, they create a sound that has drawn comparisons to Portishead, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Cure.
Engineer/Producer James Mullen and vocalist Vi formed Dare Me Down in a basement studio in New York City’s Lower East Side in 2008.
Mullen writes and produces the music, playing the guitar, drums, and bass as well as the string arrangements. Vi, an accomplished singer, provides the vocals and writes the lyrics.
Dare Me Down performs live as a five-piece band consisting of drums (Timur Yusef, bass (John Ashby), guitar (Mullen), vocals (Vi), and keyboards (Angelo Miliano) making for a live sound to match the lavish production of their recordings. They are currently performing around New York and are wrapping up production of their first album.
