This trio of rap artists consists of 3 native North Carolinians, Kriss (K.R.) Robinson, age 18, Gregg, (G-MACK) Tew, age 20 and Quincy (T.R.I.P) Jones, age 18. Each with his own distinctive flare, swagga, and take on hip hop. It wasn’t until the three cousins combined their individual flares for hip hop to make what is now becoming widely known as YG’Z music. Yes YG’Z music! If you haven’t heard it by now, you will, as it has now begun to consume North Carolina’s hip hop scene. Who would have thought, 3 siblings from the trailor parks and juke joints of a small rural community in the sandhills of N.C would grow to define hip hops culture in the state. That’s right, these boys are from Eaglesprings N.C. A community so small it doesn’t even have a stop light. Here’s a quote from one of the groups members, G-Mack. “Yea! lol...it’s a small place, and no we don’t got a stop light....but don’t get it twisted! That just means that we ain’t never been taught to stop. So once we get started... it’s best you just get out they way!” Gregg, (G-mack) Tew, is a recent graduate of Pinecrest High School, now attends The University of Pembroke where he plans to further his craft as a recording engineer, while Kriss, and Quincy, have nearly completed their junior years of High school at you guessed it Pinecrest High. When asked about the recent success of their music K.R had this to say, “ Well, it kinda’ started at school. We been making music for years... it wasn’t until 1 of our classsmates from the basketteball team saw one of our music videos on YOUTUBE, that’s when our popularity around school grew. People wanted to hear the next track, so joint after joint we gave it to them. Before I knew it my cous. MEDS. (Marcus Medley) started telling us people was bumpimg traxx in Charlotte at UNCC. Then we were fortunate enough to hook up with Jesse from VIDEOMIX TV. He played the SCOPE’M OUT video and now people come out da woodworks telling me they saw it. Now if we can get the local radio to quit frontin on us maybe we can take this thang to another level.” As you can see these guys are definately putting in the work and these small town boys intend to make good. Because of the lack of support from local radio they’ve begun digitally distributing their music via MYSPACE music, AMAZON music, RHAPSODY, EMUSIC, ITUNES, NAPSTER, and others with great success. With callaboration offers in the works from other prominant artist they plan to put their hometown EAGLEROCK CITY N.C. on the map. Check out the latest single off the soon to be released album MELTDOWN, titled “BETCHA’ FEEL ME!” and you’ll see why the have become N.C premier hip hop representer.
