More evidence that all good things come in three’s … Led by electric and enigmatic frontman Kevin “Jasper” Brereton (vocals, guitar) with Andy “the Animal” Plamondon (drums) and Greg “Private” Part (bass) … Desert Bar is a triple-shot of rock n’ roll to the blood stream, served just the way you like it … straight up. Reminiscent of a young AC/DC, Clash and Led Zeppelin … the Edmonton, Alberta based three-piece has quickly made names for themselves with the unbridled and unabashed rock n’ roll ferocity they pour into live performances – ounce, after ounce, after ounce. With every show, Desert Bar continues to win over and attract new supporters – just like a magnetic freight train … steaming through a valley of sheet metal. In June, the band will release and detonate its debut self-titled album upon unsuspecting ear drums across the nation. Exploring themes of anticipation and anxiety, euphoria and depression, “Desert Bar” contrasts the ups-and-downs of a chaotic, claustrophobic, substance-fueled night on the town with the spinning- isolation, tranquility and numbness of a morning-after hangover. “Desert Bar” is not a perfect record – not by any stretch. But perfection was never the intent. The band’s approach to recording was plug in, put out, and drink-up. Modern gimmicks and techno-tricks were left in the studio sack, in favour of fingers on strings … palms on sticks … and sweat on brows. All sand paper … no shoe polish. The result is a loud, organic, raw, mood-shifting, unpredictable album – complete with grime and road rash. After all, this is F$%*’n rock n’ roll! And such is life. Where the band goes from here is anyone’s guess. But for the trio and their fans … the fun lies in the unknown. The boys in Desert Bar invite you to pony up, raise a glass, swallow hard and climb aboard. Just remember kids, “Freedom is Dirty”. One, two, three … Bottoms up.
