Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, to a Jamaican mother and a South American father, D Fly's musical influences range from Bob Marley to Teddy Pendergrass. D-Fly used his multicultural experiences to combine reggae and dancehall with hip-hop. With his love for music, especially hip-hop, he created ways to allow music to become his claim to fame.. His diverse lyrics come from his broad spectrum on life. His parents did not play pop or rap music while he was being raised, so D-Fly listened to it with his local friends, and he absorbed the hip-hop style of music. His influences are Outkast, Jay Z, Biggie, Tupac, and Rakim. While he was listening to these various artist he would rap along with them in his native tongue, Jamaican creole (Patois). D-Fly gained popularity as a local artist and he and his friends started a group called WhizzStar. At the age of nineteen, he migrated to the United States and settled in Atlanta,GA. D-Fly took his ability to transform his personal experiences into lyrical rhymes, creating a unique twist to hip-hop. In 2008, he launched an independent record label called Island City Enterprise (I.C.E.).
