DICE San Bernardino California native, Joseph Nolin aka “DICE”, a tenacious and emotion stirring Rap artist started making music at the age of 9. Born in San Bernardino in 1986, DICE was essentially homeless, living with his single mother on welfare. Dropping out of high school at the age of 16, DICE had to do what he had to do to generate income for his family. By the age of 18, DICE was no longer homeless and at the ripe old age of 20 he had completely turned his life around. DICE’S career in the music business started out slowly as most artist career’s do. He would find himself rapping at parties, on the street, at friend’s houses, or in front of any camera he could get in front of. It was obvious early on that this young man was destined to become a great entertainer and performer, consistently utilizing his rhyme to educate the youth about the harsh reality of the streets that he experienced first hand as a teen. Dice’s philosophy is similar to that of the superstar Tupac when it comes to the styles he creates in his music. He feels strongly that a picture should be painted that everyone and anyone can relate too no matter what lifestyle they decide to choose. If you ask Dice where his musical influences come from, he might say he has a few. Although he considers his work and style unique in many ways, he refuses to compare himself to other artists, but rather to a true writer of the art. When urged, Dice cites particular similarities such as the prominence of Tupac, the word play ability of Biggie Small, and the deep story telling anthems of Eminem. This extremely talented rapper insists that his style and sound is different and his fans agree. Exhibiting a “West Coast Swag” with “East Coast Lyrics” he aspires to become an extremely influential figure among today’s youth. When asked what it is about his presence in the entertainment business that would influence the teens, Dice states “I believe that the strength of explicit lyrics is increasingly becoming frowned upon in the rap and hip hop environment today. It’s my assertion that the cultural language is not going to change, but the method I use to connect the words, and to inspire, will change a life and that makes it all worth while to me” Dice is a truly unique artist in every sense of the word. Describing his methodology for writing as coming from within himself and from what he observes around him. “The beatz comes first”, states Dice, “then I write the flow around it”. With a sincere desire to totally stagger his audiences, Dice wants his fans to walk away from a Dice concert totally in awe. “I want them to feel inspired like they just spent the best money of their lives”, states Dice. Even at such a very young age, Dice is not a newcomer to the music business and the Rap Scene. In 2002 with his group Rehab he released a self titled album which was produced by Westside Bugg, and later in 2003 with his then band the Groove Click, he released another self titled album also produced by Westside Bugg. He has also shared the stage with national acts such as Marques Houston. Recently signed to Freedom Rolling Records, a Southern California based independent record label, Dice will be releasing a new mix-tape in July of 2010 titled Freedom Rollin’. Plans for a full length album are in the making. When asked if he can maintain his integrity as his commercial success increases, Dice replied, “Absolutely, as a matter of fact I believe my increasing commercial success will only further enhance my personal and career integrity”. Dice is currently planning his tour schedule after the release of his mix-tape Forever Rollin’ with Bricktoyaface Entertainment. Keep alert for this up and coming artist.
