Gary had been a Deejay in the world for 18 years before he answered the call from the Lord to receive salvation. During those 18 years as a secular DJ, he struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and much confusion.
Renee, his high school sweetheart and now wife of 15 years was the only stable thing in his life before he found Christ. She prayed many years for her husband before the Lord spoke and told her if she got out of the way, He would deal with her husband. God also promised her that the separation would not end in divorce. It took Renee 2 years to be obedient to God, but in her obedience God proved His faithfulness.
The night Renee finally left, Gary had a Damascus Road Experience (Acts 9:1-22), but before he did, he was actually happy that his wife was gone. As soon as she left he plotted to go to his music room, roll himself a few joints and kick back. However, he was led to their bedroom instead. When he got inside the door he was thrown to his knees where he was visited. He didn't see a face but he saw a figure and heard a voice and he knew it was Jesus.
Jesus showed Gary a fork in the road and told him that he had a choice to make. He reminded Gary that he had been down the wide road and already knew where it led. Gary got up from his knees and began his journey down the narrow road. As he did, the crossroad and Jesus disappeared. Gary's decision that night changed his life for eternity. But God wasn't through.
After God restored their marriage, Gary & Renee grew in the Lord and began to do Kingdom work together. One night Gary heard the voice of the Lord. This time the Lord told him "Come Follow me and I'll take care of you." Gary knew that he had to leave his job to follow Jesus. He was hesitant, but after two weeks of turmoil at work Gary decided to totally surrender his life to the Lord.
After Gary's crossroad experience he got a new name, but after he heard from Jesus he got a purpose and a new goal. He was known for "The Chronic Mix" as Rock Master Gary but vowed to be known as a servant of the Most High God as DJ: "I Rock Jesus". He charmed many souls for Satan through songs with deadly lyrics and catchy hooks. Now he is sold out for Jesus, unashamed of the gospel and ready to reclaim and capture more souls for the Kingdom of God.
God called Gary & Renee to start a ministry called Music for Life. He gave them (Deut 30:19) “…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore Choose Life…” The purpose of the ministry is to provide and promote Music for Life for people to choose from. We all know that Music that leads to death is available any day of the week. Music for Life mixes the Word of God with all types of uplifting music to provoke the lost to righteousness and the saints to remain steadfast and unmovable. It also encourages all to live victoriously by promoting Christian values through Christian music. Music For Life is considered music that lifts up the one who gives life, who is the bread of life and the key to eternal life, Jesus Christ.
The ministry also builds awareness of the influence of today's music and provides education to parents on the destructive nature of the words versus the beats and rhythms of the songs their children listen to. This point can't be stressed enough; it's the lyrics that the youth repeat over and over which are venomous. The phrases they sing become a part of their thoughts, then a part of their hearts and if we don't intervene eventually a part of their lives.
We can't be ignorant of Satan's devices. (2Cor 2:11)
Gary often says, "I have become all things to all men that I might by all means save some" (1 Cor 9:22). He knows that his gifting is to play music for all peoples, and he believes that God can use Christian DJs the same way He uses worship leaders and musicians, to usher in the presence of God. However, he is also convinced that his calling is to be instrumental in turning the Hip-Hop Industry around. Gary plans to do all he can to replace the lyrics of death, destruction, and damnation our youth are listening to with lyrics of love, life, and hope.
Gary enjoys being a DJ and performing live. But he is also a producer and does everything from mixing and arranges CDs to producing commercials and radio shows for other artists. Gary is a passionate supporter of Christian Hip-Hop and its Artist. His weekly program, "The Live Mix Show" is a true labor of love.
