It is hard to put an exact date on when Du Brut was actually started. Originally a collaboration between Conky ShortStack and Jordan Posh, the band started out as their response to the bands they respected and felt inspired by. After pooling their thoughts and putting down tracks they started searching for the other members they needed to fill the band out with talented musicians. Ricky Rockstar was added on drums nearly as soon as he was found to be available. Conky had known of Ricky for a while before the band but an opportunity never presented itself to where the two could collaborate musically. With Ricky fresh off of a U.S. tour and fresh out of a band, Carlos made a proposition, and here we are now. Johnny Makentard hit the mix last, probably the 11th bass player to try out for the band his determination and willingness to practice and perfect himself won him over more than anything else. This kid will always try harder than anyone else we auditioned regardless of how good he is, how good he gets, or how comfortable he feels with the music. That, and he's younger than everyone else, so we can pick on him a lot. The first release by Du Brut was a 4 song EP, recorded at Sound of Music studios in Richmond, Virginia and professionally mastered and printed via the glorious wonders of the internet and its online retailers. The EP is $3, that's only 75 cents per song, good music shouldn't be expensive.
