EL-S aka Lucas Slattery, a Milwaukee native, has always had an ear for music. His mother was an avid fan of such artists as Luther Vandross, Al Green, Isley Brothers, Donny Hathaway, Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys and so on.  El-S became inspired watching his older brother and his crew  produce beats and then rap on them. Now in NYC producing his own beats, EL-S hopes to be able to light the torch for a new generation as his family once lit the flame within him. With influences ranging from artists such as Black milk, 9th Wonder, The Alchemist and Pete Rock to the late, great Jay Dilla , he has gained support from other producers such as Prime of Team Hot, HITM Productions, 56 Productions, and D-Dub and so on. EL-S encountered numerous opportunities to hit mainstream with his productions, but he lives by the wise words of Jay Dilla who said “You know, if I had a choice, skip the major labels and just put it out yourself man… Trust me. I tell everybody it’s better to do it yourself and let the Indies come after you instead of going in their [direction] and getting a deal and you have to wait, it ain’t fun, take it from me.” In every beat he makes, EL-S subscribes to the rule-of-thumb learned from fellow beat makers around the globe to “Never play a note you don’t believe”. Like the old masters he learned from, EL-S’ music expresses life and times via an intangible, elusive quality that may simply be a keen sense of what matters most. Although EL-S wants to work with as many artists as he can and is open to working with record labels, his passion is with the underground sound of unsigned artists.  He is known for his soulful hits with Deep Bass. EL-S says “Music is music, there is no one Producer better than the other, no one Artist particularly better than the other. The consumer decides what they like and I make music for the consumer”.
