E.M. Spencer is a band whose origins can be traced back to 2002. Existing in several previous incarnations, Allen, Art, Howard, and Kurt have been playing together since 2008. With two albums completed (The Suburban Baltimore Songbook, and our new album, Who is Spencer?), the Towson based band looks forward to creating and playing more music in the future: Allen mixes many media in his life endeavors. From baseball fanatic and analyst, to poet, to sci-fi geek , the bassist for E.M. Spencer likes to have many different courses on his plate. From Fleetwood Mac, to Coldplay, to Duncan Sheik, David Wilcox, and U2, Allen has many musical influences. Allen continues to work on writing music, playing bass, figuring out Lost, and rooting for the long suffering Orioles. He insists on no cheese on his burgers, or pizza....that's right, PIZZA!!! Kurt started his life out as a single-celled organism, and blossomed into a full-fledged child in the span of 30 years. How did he do it? Through the likes of Toto, Christopher Cross, Prince, Bee Gees, Chicago, and Pat Benatar. A simple transition, molded in traditional 1980's Reaganomics, vinyl LP's, and a healthy infatuation with Debbie Gibson (the good one). He's fooled everyone but himself in his never-ending quest for musical domination, and stands (guitar in hand) ready to conquer the meek, and run from the better-read 10% of the population. He also enjoys long walks on the beach, gin & tonics, and spell-check. Howard (Bones) Skelton was born in Petersburg, VA, and had a love for drumming that started with banging on hat boxes and pots and pans with cardboard coat hangers since before he can remember. There are several theories as to how he acquired the name...but we won't go into that! After being away from music for some time, Bones joined a band in Florida that had lost their drummer. Bones joined Random Chance and played with them for 5 years before relocating to the Baltimore area. Howard played with Tuesday Taxi for 2 years before joining E.M. Spencer. Influences: Ginger Baker, John Bonham, David Garibaldi, Nigel Olsson, and Ringo Starr Greg Silver, our newest member, comes to the band with nearly 4 weeks of lifetime keyboard experience. When initially asked about his background, Greg told us, “I was born and raised down in Alabama, on a farm way back up in the woods.” He went on to recall, “I was so ragged the kids would call me patches.” We later found out that Greg has a bit of a taste for the Fun Dip, and on a high, had channeled Clarence Carter. When not quoting Southern soul musicians, Greg enjoys building model AMC Pacers, running a Betamax repair shop, and lobbying Congress to name more things after our 29th President, Warren Harding.
