"The future of Vancouver's music scene" - Terry David Mulligan Identical twins Courtney and Stephanie Fera cut their musical teeth on everything from the Beatles and Hanson, to Patty Griffin and Bryan Adams. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, the songwriting sisters - known simply as FERA - started their music career in 2000. Over the past ten years FERA has recorded three albums: 'The Music Room' (2005) - produced by Paul Airey (Michael Buble); 'Familiar Feeling' (2007) - produced by CCMA award-winner Tom Mckillip (Aaron Pritchett, One More Girl). There was never any question in the girls' minds that they would record their own songs, and the resulting productions are an eclectic collection of emotionally charged and passionately delivered material. After releasing two singles to Canadian country radio in 2008, FERA had opportunities to open for Lisa Brokop, One More Girl and Prairie Oyster; and shared the stage with artists such as Jessie Farrell, Valdy, Ian Tyson, Randy Bachman, Chilliwack and many more. Over the past five years, FERA has been attracting new fans and winning over a wide range of audiences with their genre-bending blend of music....sliding off country, bouncing into rock, dabbling in a little alt-everything, and shaking hands with pop. As Stephanie says, "Come to a show and I dare you to put us in a box!" The duo embraces their multi-influenced sound, shakes it up and pours it out as the uniquely FERA experience. Their exciting live show fuses the passion of Patty Griffin with the humor of the Barenaked Ladies, turning every performance into a high energy romp that seduces the listener with their unpretentious charm, and captivating vocals that only siblings can deliver with conviction. Courtney and Stephanie's life-long love affair with songwriting led to an opportunity at the 2008 CCMA Music Conference, where the FERA song 'Fairytales' was signed to OLE Music Publishing. Their co-writing adventures have since led to writing sessions with Jessie Farrell, One More Girl, Kathleen Higgins, Exit This Side, The Matinee. FERA has been nominated several years in a row for the BC Country Music Awards 'Group or Duo', 'Roots Artist', 'SOCAN Song of the Year' and 'Rising Star'. The FERA song 'Tornado' was in the top 20 of The Shore 104.3 'Sounds of Summer Contest'. "The judges were all really excited about 'Tornado' and think it's a great representation of what this contest is all about - the roots of songwriting", says Lindsay MacPherson (The Shore 104.3) With a well-received writing trip down to Nashville and L.A. and a music video for their new song, "Stardust" set to release in June 2011, FERA is poised to make a big splash - and an impressive debut - on the Canadian and American music scene. That unflinching approach to their music should tell everyone not only where they're coming from, but also where they're headed.
