The firebird has been singing since childhood. Her family has a rich history of musicians, a grandfather that played piano for the “Little Jimmy Scott” big band and grandmother that starred in the all African American cast of “Ziegfeld Follies” in old historic Bronzeville, the black renaissance of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over the years the family cultivated the love of music, and LaShawndra “Fiery Phoenix” Vernon began performing in local productions with Uptown Productions. LaShawndra starred as Tammy Terrell, and fell in love with the Motown productions. She started traveling in these productions until she decided to get involved in original songs.
She was soon added to songs by the Taste Emcees, a local underground force known for international music as well as campuses in the Midwest and abroad. She was featured on several songs and was building a name as a powerful soul singer.
She was simultaneously singing in church, in which she was featured as the soloist on a regular basis. It was there that she found out that she was a fiery presence with the anointing of God on her voice. She was lead to a band called Divine Word. This band afforded her many opportunities to be used by God to send a message through song. She performed at African World Festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin featuring Divine Word in 2007.
She has recently revealed her hidden talent as an emcee. Hip hop has been her source of expression for all these years, but only recently has she been recording this talent. She remains one of the strongest female emcees despite her freshman status. Her current album features the combination of the two, a presence that has not been seen since the likes of Lauryn Hill.
The Fiery Phoenix is determined to make her presence known through passionate music with a message that is powerful enough to emancipate the enslaved. She is dedicated to a positive message to women, children and families, and is very involved with the community. Her passion is the people, her drive is sincere, and her love endures all. She is ready to share her soul with the world, and will not stop until her destiny to create change through music is fulfilled.
