with a vision of things to come or successes to be had. Instead, they were
built around a common passion for music, mostly underground hip-hop. It
didn't take long to see that Ry "Fly" Hughes was uncommonly
comfortable producing beats and selecting samples. Fly was around 14
years old when he finished his first full-length track, "Breath of Fresh Air",
as well as his first CD, "The Ryan Hughes L.P." Davis "Family" Stone
appeared on a few of the tracks at first, but soon began writing and
rapping on every song. As juniors in high school, they released a 17 song
album and sold them by hand to classmates, colleagues, and teachers.
The album, Hip hOptions, began to scratch the surface of what it was that
Fly and Family Stone wanted their music to become: a classically inspired
blend of vintage hip-hop with an underground style and feel. In 2008 Fly
and Family Stone got back to music with their 3rd CD, a self-titled
five-song E.P. that took their passion to the next level. They booked
shows at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom and The Diamond After Dark,
and have more shows planned for the spring and summer.
