Spawned in the southern Denver suburbia of Littleton, Colorado, "Fulcrum" is a band that came together with one great mission in mind: to re-ignite the world of Rock ‘N’ Roll. Spawned in the southern Denver suburbia of Littleton, Colorado, "Fulcrum" is a band that came together with one great mission in mind: to re-ignite the world of Rock ‘N’ Roll. The band was born (thanks to a high school swimming class) as a 2-piece acoustic/drums duo that in a matter of weeks began expanding to new levels, fueling the need for “more”. Coincidentally, Sasha Moonitz had just made his way to Denver and after one tryout, the addition of bass guitar gave the group such great chemistry, they soon began taking their first strides into the vast realm of rock music, and found themselves taking big steps venturing down the long road of the music scene. The name ‘Fulcrum’ comes from a poem songwriter Jason Marino once wrote emphasizing the importance of balance in life, building the metaphor of black and white and how there is no such thing as “shades of grey”. Their first debut show in early 2006 was at a local dive venue in Littleton, Colorado where they played in front of an audience of around 70+ people. The show went really well and many good things we’re said, but the next couple of years were anything but paradise, as the group was making great progress as a band, but little progress in the music scene. They have played (almost) every bar, saloon, and basement venue in the state of Colorado, and would occasionally fall on the bill of bigger venues such as LIFEspot or The Falcon. As the summer season of 2007 was shifting into the fall, the group decided they needed a new plan of attack and after witnessing the success of fellow Colorado bands “The Fray”, “Tickle Me Pink”, and “Flobots”, no longer wanted to be a “baby band” in the scene. With their eyes and their hearts focused on the top of the mountain, they began studying, honing, practicing, and writing at a higher level every day. The band suddenly had a new attitude and focus that soon had begun to push them closer and closer to success, concentrating on one thing: writing GREAT songs. Their live show went through a complete makeover implementing creative methods of theatrics combined with a new sound that always left the audience stimulated and inspired. Fulcrum concerts have been described as “a great musical journey” and as “something you can lose yourself in”. Whenever they take the stage, their mission is to “affect the crowd”. Their image was reinvented by taking their “old” styles and refreshing them with their “new” ideas. After the success of their track “Zebra Sheets”, the Zebra Pattern suddenly became the band’s signature and one of the many things that makes them easily stand out from other groups. They typically dress around the likes of black and white in a pleasing, different, and interesting appearance, expressing their “harmonious contrast”. Their music in this ‘transition phase’ had leaped light years ahead of where it had been before. Songwriter Jason Marino had become nothing less than obsessed with writing exceptional music that would be labeled as “hit songs”. Countless hours were put into studying the top of the Billboard charts and all of the past and present hits, and he started writing songs that were “poems of storytelling through the medium of music”, where he emphasizes on “vocals and melody”. “I went out and started buying songwriting books, and as soon as I would finish one, I would open up the next”, he exclaims, “I suddenly felt a reawakened passion to write and be creative, to captivate, and I think it’s really coming out in our new [songs]. I feel like I could do this forever. It’s what makes me feel alive.” All the forward momentum had begun to launch the band to new heights they had never been before… but were eagerly anticipating. The group had found themselves in radio station studios doing interviews, and being talked about in magazines and publications, and even signing autographs, all in the meantime of honing their talent, writing great songs, and developing their “star power”. Their songs were now being played in rotation on most of the college stations around the state, and they have been played on both the “Local’s Only” show and during the day on Denver’s mainstream radio station 93.3FM KTCL, as well as other larger area Denver stations. They were no longer playing at bar gigs, but now consistently being booked at large venues such as The Falcon, The Gothic Theater, and even major universities in Colorado. Most recently they played at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in the Green Frontier Music Festival, as well as the much talked about Tent State Music Festival featuring Flobots, State Radio, and Rage Against The Machine. Fulcrum is a band that is always consistent, and taking remarkable steps into their potential. They are a very stable group who get along famously with no “heroin problems”, have a strong work ethic, and can foresee a long successful career into the future. Fueled by their vast and boundless passion, they plan on continuing their music as long as possible while always working to develop and take big steps into the levels beyond, facing confidently and determined into what is next to come.
