George Lampros is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter, musician, and audio engineer. He is a first generation American exposed to music from an early age when his family gathered to sing and play folk music of the mountainous Greek region they immigrated from. Watching his family moved to tears by the melodies created simply with voice, violin, clarinet, and hand drum George felt the power music has to evoke emotion, memory, and create a sense of communion. He grew up dreaming of music while working in his father’s restaurant, scribbling lyrics on school desks and drumming on every available surface. Eventually George graduated to a drum kit and experimenting with chord progressions on the keys or bass during basement jam sessions. George then taught himself how to engineer and edit tracks, focusing on further honing his craft and technical abilities. He secured an internship in the industry and currently owns a recording studio in downtown Chicago providing full-service sound design for video and radio postproduction. Song writing is an organic experience for George. He conceptualizes songs as mental “threads”, waiting to be coaxed out and committed to paper. Rhythm tracks are created in tandem with lyrics and progress naturally, resulting in songs with warmth, live instrumentation, and minimal digital tweaking. George’s music is informed by “straight from the gut” performers like Hank Williams Sr., as well as the lyrical parables and roots reggae of Bob Marley. His creative process evolves through expression of personal convictions, visions of the surrounding world, and life experiences. George hopes to strike a balance between entertainment, enlightenment, and education in his songwriting ultimately creating a soundtrack to accompany others on their own life journeys.
