“To hear Ghost Towne is to hear old-time rock 'n' roll.” -Lyn Jensen, Random Lengths, Carson, California GHOST TOWNE started out sometime in 2006 when Nobu Kawamura felt he could finally fulfill his musical vision. Having moved to the Los Angeles area a year before as an English language student, he’d already formed two bands in that time: ‘Nobu Patterson’ and ‘Nobu Yellow Blues Band’. But, though the 21 year old, Japanese native loved the music he they were performing, something was missing. Having grown up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Pink Floyd, The Doors, B.B. King and many more like them, Nobu felt his style of music could be something incorporating all of those genres and more. After several band member changes, GHOST TOWNE in its current incarnation was born. "Their style is more like Western [European and American] rock bands, especially seventies' rock bands. It's easy to tell who is [at a show] to see this band, as opposed to who's there for the other bands. [But] every time we have another show we seem to be getting bigger and bigger." Since January ’08, GHOST TOWNE’s live show schedule has increased dramatically. Most bands want to jump straight into the big venues, like The Cat Club, or Crash Mansion LA, both of which GHOST TOWNE has performed at, but their music is appreciated just as well at the smaller café’s and bars like the Jumping Turtle, Good Hurt, Tribal Café, Zen Sushi and The Blue Café in Santa Monica. They consider themselves a Live band, their performance, stage-presence and soul felt a hundred times more emphatic in person. “No More FAKE Music.” Their self-titled demo, released one year ago, is a good example of their unique sound. Featuring seven full-length, original songs all written and composed by Nobu, each song represents a different aspect of this young band. With its ‘Rockn’ Roll Philosophy’ with its long guitar solos and fast, energetic beat, ‘Ghost Towne’ and it’s haunting, spooky feel, or the sorrowful longing of ‘Kind Woman’, everyone is sure to find the lyrics touching their hearts. “Seeing Nobu [with Ghost Towne] perform live is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It is clearly written on his face, in every muscle and caress of his well-loved guitar, that what he sings and plays comes straight from his heart” People seeing or an unknown band for the first time are always skeptical, but over and over, as soon as people hear GHOST TOWNE’s music, and see them perform, they are hooked. Always a surprise, no one expects that soulful, bluesy-rock voice to be coming from a young, Japanese student. As he steps up to the microphone, and closes his eyes, his fingers dance feather-light over the strings, and you feel his soul open up. The recent additions of Masa (also a Japanese student) on bass and Mikayla (the only Us citizen and female) on drums, their line-up finally feels complete. The dedication and eagerness to spread GHOST TOWNS unique vision can finally be fulfilled. And with recent performances all across California, the difference is palpable. With new songs being added, and each month filled with shows, GHOST TOWN’s popularity is spreading through the minds and hearts of good ole’ rockn’ roll lovers all across the US! GHOST TOWNE's music has been defined in many ways, but at the core is always an amazing Rock performance. With many influences including blues, classic 70's rock, metal, soul, funk and psychedelica, everyone can find something that touches them. Some songs are slow and haunting, like 'Ghost Towne' or 'Shadow in a Diamond', more bluesy like 'Lizard's Tale', fast and hard rock like 'Stoneman' and 'Rockn' Roll Philosophy', or mysterious and Arabic influenced like 'Spicey Chicken'. Whatever you feel like calling the music, theres no doubt that its unique and the musicians are talented and consumed with the feelings their music brings out in people. GHOST TOWNE has only been with this line-up for about a year, but we have been all over California, having shows as far north as Sacramento, and as far south as San Diego.Places we have performed include The Unknown Theater, Crash MansionLA opening for GREAT WHITE, The Cat Club, Tribal Cafe, The Jumping Turtle, Awakenings Cafe, Zen Sushi, Good Hurt, Universal Bar and Grill, etc. We were also interviewed by a Carson reporter, Lyn Jennings, for the 'Random Lengths' newsletter, and they will be following us for some time as our music progresses and grows.
