E&I is a collective of two die-hard hip-hop fans and artists, trying to make it in the fickle music industry. Heading their own independent record label, g.l.o. Records (Greatness Lives On), they have been working together since 2006. After discovering their respective talent and forming a clear vision for their future, the two began to write and record, slowly gaining respect from their region, and gaining notoriety in areas around their town as well. E&I began as Gorilla Squad, and then changed their name to Cryme Syndicate, but, feeling they needed a name that meant something more, they settled on E&I (Ebony & Ivory). After N.E.M. began to attend college at Appalachian State University, he started venturing off into solo territory, temporarily putting the group on hold in hopes to make some money while going to school. He released two mixtapes, “Heir to the Throne” and “The Carolina Blueprint EP, and is readying his newest work, “A Beautiful Mind”. At the same time, Ruby began to work on his own solo project, “Diary of a Mad Black Man”, and was working full time to provide for his family and fund his own home studio. After being involved with numerous record labels and possible deals that never came to fruition, Ruby and N.E.M. became disillusioned with signing with independent record labels and decided to create their own, g.l.o. Records. Currently they the only two artists under this imprint, but they are always looking to sign and groom other artists that share their same vision. They also own and operate another record label, Gorilla Squad Records, which is used for underground artist’s releases, with an artist under the imprint Yung Slice operating and procuring new talent. 2011 is looking promising for this young group, with shows and new releases lined up, keep your eyes and your ears open to what is to come. g.l.o.life’s the movement, E&I is the music.
