Gobi was formed in the summer of '05 by Justin Dillon and Philip Arciniega. The duo met in El Paso TX in the late nineties. Gobi was formed in the summer of '05 by Justin Dillon and Philip Arciniega. The duo met in El Paso TX in the late nineties. The many nights dancing in the Juarez club scene placed the roots of their love for house and break-beat music. By summer of '06 Dillon and Arciniega created the rough begginings towards a new expression in electronica, and with the help of percussionist Mathew Dunn, they recorded Welcome to Planet Gobi (EP) '07. In the summer of '07 Gobi became a duo replacing the acoustic drums with pure electronic beats and began verging more toward their roots, with influences such as: Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Enferma, DJ Tiesto, and Tu Pac (I know thats probobaly too many influences), inspiring their sound. Gobi is currently working on their first full length album Planet Gobi- The Cyborg Chefs of the White-Dwarf District, which will be released in late fall of '08.
