Biography

Goodbye Congregation just sounds like Eastern Kentucky; the sounds of holler poets picking banjos on the front porch mixed eloquently with the thunderous boom of an IROC-Z blasting Led Zepplin while they kick up dust on ragged gravel roads. Bobby Harris is the primary songwriter for the band. His lyrics and music are directly influenced by the sounds and folk art he was raised around and by the Rock’N’Roll he would discover later in life. It is safe to say the "biology" of the songs is rooted in traditional country music and hymns, while the "spirit" of the music is informed by a rock aesthetic. The result: songs for all seasons, and damaging reasons. Goodbye congregation have been a featured band on buzzgrinder.com where Sean Cannon said this about Goodbye Congregation, “Originally from the hills of eastern Kentucky, the Goodbye Congregation lets it show with a hint of Jay Farrar-style twang on the vocals and the requisite alt-country instrumentation.” The Dame added to that by stating on their website that Goodbye Congregation has the “heart of Neil Young.”
