Greg Walters

Biography

"Greg Walters balances on a fine line of soul and control; never over-singing, never forcing emotion, but giving the listener just enough. His easy and innovative blue-eyed R&B could potentially fill a void not yet realized in the Nashville music scene." - James R. "Greg Walters balances on a fine line of soul and control; never over-singing, never forcing emotion, but giving the listener just enough. His easy and innovative blue-eyed R&B could potentially fill a void not yet realized in the Nashville music scene." - James R. Wigginton---At first glance he's your average blue-eyed white boy from the Midwest. But singer/songwriter Greg Walters shatters that perception when he takes a seat at the piano and begins to hammer out one of his soulful tunes. His flexible, easy voice glides smoothly over catchy melodies as he recounts stories of love and loss, rejection and triumph. Listening to one of Greg's songs is like taking a peek into his journal. In fact, that's exactly where many of his songs come from. Says Greg, "I write songs about my lifeplain and simple. When I'm feeling completely caught up with an individual, I'll write a love song. If I'm dealing with heartbreak and rejection, then I'll write a song about that to help me get through it. What's amazing to me is that there is always at least one person that can relate to every song. It reminds me that no matter what I'm going through, someone has been there before." Greg's is a story of a mixed-up twenty-something that is striving to find love and to find his voice among the choir. And who can't relate to that? While Greg's music comes from nowhere but his heart, he certainly owes a debt of gratitude to the musicians that have inspired him to be the artist that he is today. Greg grew up listening to such Soul/R&B icons as Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, and Prince. Their collective artistry has had a profound impact on Greg's music, and their soulful integrity resonates with who he is as a person. Building upon the foundation that they have laid, Greg has created a sound that is uniquely his own. If there were a continuum between John Legend and Justin Timberlaketwo of Greg's favorite contemporary artistsGreg would be somewhere in the middle. His music is piano-based and laid-back like Legend's, yet smooth and soulful like Timberlake's. Greg adds to the mix a vulnerability and musical honesty to create a sound that he can truly lay claim to. Greg graduated in May with a Bachelor of Music from Belmont University. He spends much of his time writing music, and occasionally plays writers nights around Nashville.
