Born September 7, 1984, Devon Brooks A.K.A. VERSE stepped into his purpose. As a young child, his creativity and presence amazed all that he encountered. By entertaining his family with his comedic prowess this set the stage for the basis of what this young man is today. He was born and raised on the west side of Baltimore in the Sandtown-Winchester community, then later residing in Columbia, Maryland. It was then he realized that, “his passion is his gift”! Some may think that his age of 13 would be a late start in comparison to some others in the game but “dare not compare yourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” His flow is effortless, and without flaw that hits you right where you’ve been missing that “good music”. You would think he’s been doing it since he came out of the womb. Throughout the years Verse has performed at many venues catering to all genres and ethnic backgrounds. In his quest to put Baltimore on the map, he started a group named GUDDA FAM (GREATNESS- UNITY- DEDICATION-DETERMINATION- ATTITUDE- & FACE - ALL- MATTERS). A lot of blood and sweat was put into the foundation of GUDDA FAM, which ultimately transformed into the company Gudda Fam Entertainment, becoming incorporated in 2006. Gudda Fam Entertainments roster includes, Verse, the group Gudda Fam (P-Tag & B Adams), and a production team, Ziploc Fresh (DJ RAFF & NICK) consisting of music production/engineering, video production, and graphic design. As Gudda Fam’s CEO, Devon Brooks wears all of the hats that his company encompasses. His goal is to get his voice heard by the world, and believe........he has a lot to say. The hip hop game needs some rejuvenation and Verse is the individual, separate from any other, who gives it! His style is best described as, laid back, real street talk, lots of heart, typically covering all the bases. It doesn't matter if its real street talk or a motivational piece, you will not get bored because this is not a one dimensional artist. Verse is the future of hip hop, so don’t just be on the look out for him, listen very closely as well, because you may just miss out on “HIP HOP”. With his hometown support growing continuously after a five week reign on the infamous Tuesday night fight battles on 92Q, Baltimore’s #1 Radio station, he was retired by the station from competitions after defeating every emcee he battled. Although Verse does not consider himself a battle rapper, he has the heart of a lion, and will battle in a heart beat, not letting anything stand in his way. With love for all genres of music, hip hop, R&B, jazz, rock, pop, blues and more, his music speaks volumes.
