“Nothin is given to you, You gotta go out and get it". It’s November 13th and Darkside Baybay stands center stage, commanding a sell out crowd at Club Cafe Iguanas in Miami, FL. The 26-year old Miami native is opening for A Boogie with the Hoodie and Zoey Dollaz and is booking gigs all across Miami. This is the stuff of dreams for a person with odds against him. But if you know Darkside Baybay then you know nothing stands in his way.  Darkside Baybay was born and raised in crime-infested Overtown, one of Miami’s poorest communities. His father, a well known drug kingpin and the richest man in Overtown during that time, died when Baybay was only three years old, leaving his mother to run the business by herself. She rose through the ranks to become one of the most notorious drug dealers in Overtown. In 2000, Baybay mom died when he was only 9 years old. The death of his mother changed him and his brothers lives for ever. With murder rates increasing, his eldest brother Cha-Cha made a difficult decision to move Baybay and his other brother out of Overtown since he was soon about to became involved in the drug trade.  Although he moved out of Overtown, trouble still followed him. In 2010, Baybay was arrested on a felony gun charge and was sentenced to a 5 year probation term. Since it was difficult for him to earn a honest income because of his criminal background, Baybay turned to the very streets that had caused his family so much grief, to do what he felt was the only way to make money; sell drugs. He sold drugs as a means of survival. The felony charge caused Baybay to take his rap career more seriously; since music was his only inspiration. “I can’t let the system hold me down because of this felony. This music is whats going to get me into a better situation”. At a young age, he had already started experimenting with rhymes by putting everything he's seen and experienced on paper.  The first Mixtape he released was “Condo Music”. Since then he has released other projects: Mafia Music, Mafia Music II, Condo life and “Time 2 Eat (T2E)” which has been well received by his peers. T2E mixtape spread like wildfire due to word-of mouth. Because of its success, the Darkside brand started to grow exponentially and pinned him aggressively on the “got next” radar thanks to his three most popular hits Commotion, Zaytiggys and Dabbin.  Baybay has collaborated with many known Miami artists such as Brisco, Young Fi and Iceberg who are very successful underground artists. Baybay is no amateur when it comes to performances as he has opened for Zoey Dollaz and PNB Rock at the Rec Philly Tour in Philadelphia, Ugly God on the trill Mania Tour, Lil Durk and most recently,  A Boogie with the Hoodie. Baybay has recently released his highly anticipated fifth project titled “The Last Straw”. “I named it The Last Straw” because I had enough. I’m giving this project my all." With his buzz building thanks to his relentless work ethic and steady stream of high quality material, Darkside Baybay is well on his way to being one of the greats in the Music industry.
