Half After is a progressive rock band based out of Santa Rosa, CA. The musical style of the band can best be defined as a fusion of sounds spanning 3 decades of music including the singer songwriter compositions of the 70’s, the over the top rock anthems of the 80’s and guttural growls of 90’s grunge and heavy metal. When combined these musical styles form a unique and eccentric look at a cohesive group of musicians dedicated to the magic of self expression through sound. In autumn 2009 Half After cofounders, Tracy Fey and Bret Bradford, began writing and recording what would become Half After’s debut album “Midnight Freedom”. With minimal expectations of the album, Tracy and Bret were elated with the final outcome and the positive reactions and reviews that have been pouring in. This elation transformed into a desire to put a band together and start rehearsing. Enter Matt Vargas; a soulful and rock driven Bass player. Matt started playing bass at the age of 18. He searched long and hard for the right combination of musicians before stumbling upon Half After. Matt holds down sultry rhythms that provide a driving force for the band. Auditions for a drummer began. Tracy, Matt and Bret quickly found the perfect counterpart to their sound in one Chuck Scarpelli. Chuck was drawn to Half After’s music because of its strong melodies and transitions into driving hard rock. Chuck’s mantra of: “respect the groove” has him playing to each song’s character and soundscape. He likes to think of it as laying out a 10” thick carpet ride upon which Half After can travel. Rounding out the group was the addition of James Cassero on Rhythm and Lead Guitars. Jim grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sonoma County. Jim was a founding member of Bay Area metal groups Vicious Rumors and Scanner. He recorded on Mike Varney's Shrapnel Records U.S. Metal Compilations and has opened shows for: Ted Nugent, Motley Crue, Slayer, Night Ranger, Y&T, Lita Ford, and many more. At present Half After is interested in making as much noise as possible throughout the Bay area and beyond.
